The first geological classification of environmental risk factors is proposed for Karelia. Risks of both natural and artificial origin affect the environmental parameters assessed and
the state of living organisms. Based on our knowledge of the environmental functions of the lithosphere, risk factors are split up into geochemical, geophysical, geodynamic and resource
groups. Connected with them are geodynamic and resource factors. When artificially-induced and natural impacts are combined, greater changes in environmental parameters may occur, which should be considered in evaluation of environmental risks.
