Institute of Geology KarRC RAS continues successfully its international cooperation in spite of the corona virus. A vivid example is the international webinar «Lithosphere of the Fennoscandian and the Indian Shields: formation from Archean to Recent», the Institute organized on February 24-25 in collaboration with its reliable partners from Bundelkhand University, India.
Indian media promptly informed their audience about this event, which is important for scientists in both India and Russia.

The international webinar gathered half a hundred researchers from India, Russia, Finland, and South Africa. Over the two days, 19 presentations were given by renowned and young scientists, the papers were discussed, and suggestions were made about the future of the cooperation. Leading scientists from different parts of India (Jhansi, Hyderabad, Varanasi, Nainital, Aligarh, Chandigarh) shared new data on the geology of Indian Shield’s cratons, on Himalayan Precambrian geology. In turn, geologists from Russia (Petrozavodsk, St. Petersburg, Apatity) and Finland talked about the geology of the Fennoscandian Shield and its geophysical characteristics. Many of the speakers compared geological objects in the two shields and drew global-level conclusions. Such meetings, as Vice Chancellor of the Bundelkhand University Prof. Vaishampayan remarked in his introductory speech, are important for fulfilling the “mission of Earth Sciences: study of the lithosphere – this thin, yet so crucial for the entire humankind geosphere”.
