The conference was held under the auspices of INQUA Peribaltic Working Group. It gathered some 50 participants from Russia, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Finland, and Mexico. Almost a half of the conference guests were young European scientists.
On the first day of the conference, specialists discussed the most topical aspects of Quaternary geology, palaeoecology, palaeolimnology, geochronology, and climatology in the format of oral and poster sessions. August 21 through 24 were given to geological field excursions to the surroundings of the Shoksha village, Pai village, Kivach waterfalls, volcano near the Girvas village, and to Valaam Island.
Conference arrangements were implemented with active participation of the staff of the Laboratory of Geochemistry, Quaternary Geology, and Geoecology of the Institute of Geology KarRC RAS, namely T.S. Shelekhova, S.A. Svetov, Z.I. Slukovskii (conference secretary), N.B. Lavrova, and others.
